Fractional CFO (Chief Financial Officer)
Most of our clients don't have a cash problem. They have a clarity problem.
Money arrived with strings attached — a grant with a period of performance, an endowment with a spending rule, a restricted gift, a mill levy with a stated purpose. Now the board is asking what's actually spendable, the auditor is asking how you tracked it, and the answer takes three days to assemble and still isn't confident.
We become your finance team. Not a report that shows up quarterly. A person your executive director calls before making the decision, and a set of numbers your board can act on the night they see them.
What we handle
Restricted fund tracking and release schedules
Grant-level forecasting, drawdown timing, and advance liability
Endowment spending, gift acceptance, and windfall policy
Cash flow, reserves, and liquidity planning
Functional expense allocation
Board and funder reporting
Audit preparation and support
Financial policy design and internal controls
Board financial literacy — helping your board read what you send them
How the engagement works
Ongoing, retained, and sized to what you actually need — usually somewhere between a few days a month and a standing weekly presence. We work inside your systems, attend your board and finance committee meetings, and pick up the phone between them.
"Bryce and Jenny don't feel like outside consultants; they feel like true members of our team, invested in our mission and always thinking proactively about how their financial expertise and support can help us grow." — Dana Hatlelid, Deputy Director, Colorado Water Trust
What we don't do
We are not a payroll processor and we do not handle tax filings. We work alongside a firm we trust for both, and we'll make the introduction. We're also not attorneys — when a question is genuinely legal, we'll say so and help you ask it well.
Not sure this is the right level?
If you need the close owned, the reporting tightened, and the grant compliance handled — but not strategy and board work — start with a Fractional Controller engagement.
